Welcome Back And A Very Happy 2012!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday of choice and brought in 2012 with all the hope and promise we so righteously expect! First let me say that I managed to avoid all the hoopla and holiday excuses for not getting shit done by simply going away. I was very fortunate to get away on a three week cruise to the French Polynesia. My first time South of the Equator, and I got a certificate to prove it! Woo-hoo.

Normally I prefer my travel by plane but when opportunity presents itself, you don’t question. I learned that from my summer debacle with my foot. (Which is still in its final healing phase). First we had to fly to Los Angeles and board the boat there and then six days of ocean before Hawaii. I love Hawaii, been there before, both times by boat. One day I expect to spend some quality time there. Not only did I make new friends but I have buddies who moved there years ago. Although the place is pricey, you have to know where to go to get around things. I tell my visitors to New York the same thing before introducing them to Jack’s 99 cent store and Lower Broadway.

The trip would continue on to several more islands including Bora Bora and Tahiti. Yep, those famous isles we’ve heard so much about. More about these fascinating islands in up-coming postings.

Never to forget my raison d’etre I penned a cool short story entitled BLOOD RED CHRISTMAS, okay so I’m a bit of a humbug, but only in the most playful of ways. Blood Red Christmas is actually a homage to an old classic you Tales from the Crypt fans might recognize. Ho HO HO and a Merry Xmas to you! Chop-Chop.

Now a bit more about the ship. The ship was basically child free (there were 2) and the demographic was pretty much on the 70% seniors plus side. Take my advice kids, travel while your young and have your health. Your biggest concern aboard should be getting Internet access that won’t cost and arm and a leg, NOT whether you can afford the on board doctor. Taking a cruise is and should be about resting, de-stressing and worrying about health and weight.

Shipboard food is notorious for being occasionally healthy, often rich, and delicious food around the clock. The choice of entrees, appetizers and lets not forget those creative desserts is mind boggling. You might as well leave the table and hit the gym, go eat, then hit the gym. I tried with a modicum of success. So food is plentiful and the service, the waitstaff was nothing short of incredible. Even after a couple of weeks of established familiarity, they never failed to address me as ‘Sir’, how much do I love that!

There were of course minor human dramas but nothing I wish to taint this report with, maybe later if you ask nicely. The cruise director is a former “8 is enough” child actor whose name is I believe, Willy Aames. He was terrific, and damned hot looking!

Watching movies, eating, checking mail (when I could) I still found time to put the finishing touches on VENGEANCE, a novel sized tale about a super model who learns the hard way that not only can you never go home again, but that it’s usually a bad idea!

I’m really loving the response to the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 2300AD series and now BEAUTY AND THE BEAST2300AD; PRISON FALCONE carries the story even further, I love it when I can hold your attention. One other story that held my attention as we bounced along the waves….yes, I did have one night of really rough sea-sickness but thankfully it passed, now I’m getting over a head cold, annnyyyyway…..but as I was saying…HERCULES AND NERO offered up some light fun reading/writing with nary a dark side to it. I think I’m getting a reputation for looking at the dark side of relationships. Hercules and Nero are more Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, didn’t they die at the end? Never mind, Hercules and Nero stay very much alive.

So even though I didn’t have a lot to say in the blog lately I was still thinking and writing to you dear reader. To all of you who have written me greetings, thank you so much for the well wishes and your comments. I do appreciate each and every one of them. Please keep writing to me in my guestbook and I will answer them all in time. I appreciate your support. You folks are the ones who keep me hanging on!

Happy New Year, and a Blessed 2012!

Happy Thanksgiving

It’s that time of the year that I really don’t care for. Call me scrooge if you will but I’m not a fan of the ‘holiday season’ and it all starts with Thanksgiving. It has nothing to do with the fact that I am a quarter Creek Indian, because truth be known, my tribe was wiped out mostly by the Cherokee,or so I’m told. It may have something to do with a ‘needle in my eye’ which my eye doctor says I’ll have to do to reduce swelling in my left eye if I don’t lower my blood sugar and sodium levels. So that’s my traditional turkey dinner right there.

Thanksgiving also marks the ‘official’ start of the holiday season. Which generally means that whether you celebrate Xmas or not, everyone else will, and that means the most popular excuse for slacking off on just about everything will reverberate all over the place ‘…cant do anything until after the holidays..’ Holidays is deliberately generic to include all religions and beliefs because the excuse is non-denominational.

Of course with the economy the way it is, it’s going to be a not so merry a holiday as in celebrations long past. But I’ve done all my shopping via catalogue and made good my determination to not spend money I don’t have, so the four people I get gifts for are put on alert. It’s that thought that counts! But just so you know I’m not completely down on the holidays, I and my partner will celebrate at his place with the food of OUR choosing and not traditional, and will watch television and the Macy’s parade and and enjoy each other’s company.

Things to be grateful for: I am so grateful to my partner Will who held my hand all the while I tolerated the pain of my foot healing. I am grateful for the lessons learned from the foot infection that knocked me out for several months. I am grateful it’s almost healed completely, I am so grateful to my publishing company and the swell of support I get from them in making me a ‘star’. I am grateful for the limited enterprises that allowed me premium cable, internet, and the 4s Iphone. I am grateful for staying just a little bit connected to my biological brothers and my teenaged nephew.

And although I can be mean and cynical, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t give thanks for all the above. And as for Xmas and all its commercial trappings I hope that those who love it, do truly enjoy it, with all my blessings, and the once a year goodwill toward mankind.

WHEN A STRANGER CALLS was written a while back and at the time I thought it truly was a SORRY, WRONG NUMBER, homage. The lead character could easily have been me since I truly identify with Peter. I’m sure we have all done some things that we rather not have publicized, and here Peter discovers some guy may be chronicling his every move. Creepy? Maybe, hot, erotic and entertaining? You better believe it.

For those of you waiting for the next installment of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, I’m working on it. There’s a lot of sex in it, more than usual maybe but…anyway just finishing it up now, so patience because it promises to be hotter than the first one. Last word, my new paperback release CAIN BERLINGER’S DARKSIDE is a great stocking stuffer! Order now!!

SO HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND THE BEST THANKSGIVING!! Please remember to sign my guestbook before you log out!!

The weather’s changing, the leaves are falling and I’m enjoying the use of my silver tipped walking cane. Not a little surprising, but I’m getting people deferring to the ‘old guy on a stick’ and getting seats on the subway. It’s just one of the things I might miss being legally in the ‘handicap’…oops I mean physically challenged category. The last couple of weeks have sped by, with me spending more time in the Apple offices trying to ‘iCloud’ sync up my ‘devices’. Challenging, but satisfying once it’s been resolved. I want to thank my readers for checking in on my guest page and leaving me cheers, encouragement and no jeers on my career and health advancement.

The by now, much documented foot injury was nature’s call for me to slow down. I narrowed it down to focusing on my sex-fetish website, my sex fetish parties, and my sex-fetish writings. Truly there is a pattern being established here. The general wisdom has always been a)”if you count the nickels and dimes the dollars will take care of themselves” and b) “If you do the thing(s) you love, you can’t help but be good at it and then the bucks will follow”. The jury is still out on both of those adages but I have to say, I’m having a good time just sitting here waiting for your cards and letters.

While struggling with the DVR trying to keep up with all the new shows on network and cable, I’m being captivated by the European dramas over seas, wondering if the collapse of the euro is going to somehow trigger my having to find a 9-5 back here in the good ol’ US of A. Once again I dream about my life in Amsterdam and resuming its many pleasures!

This week’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 2300 AD is the first in a series. Can a genetically altered street fighting gladiator find happiness with a haughty, self centered opera divo (male version of diva)? Part one is where the two lovers first connect up in a dramatic kidnapping attempt. Part Two not only focuses on their escape but Haydan Petigrew, the sadistic warden of the prison where the street fighter has escaped.

The warden’s a real hard ass and practices some rather unsavory methods of keeping his men in line while enjoying himself at the same time. There’s bound to be a lot of emotional and physical activity with these startling personalities in tow.

HEIR (out 2nd December) is another juicy-kink installment in the Daddy Ben series. The story of a man basically building a ‘family’ by rescuing hot young men from some challenging circumstances.

In HEIR Jean-Luc is the nephew of a wealthy french attache who is kidnapped by unsavory types. Despite what they do to him, it seems to just get his dick hard. Wonder what that’s all about? It’s a short but entertaining read.

“It’s hard to keep momentum when it’s you you’re following” – Evita.

The Real Monsters

Guest blog by author Bryn Colvin

We’ve just had Halloween, festival of parties, fancy dress and playing with horror. Just like the paranormal romance genre, Halloween is really an exercise in making dangerous things safe and comprehensible. We forget what the monster stories are really for, exchanging them for sparkly vampires who don’t drink blood, werewolves who just want to get laid, and only the kinds of undead who do not exhibit rotting flesh at all.

Monster stories have a purpose. They aren’t kinky romance, they are there to remind us that monsters exist. Most of us won’t have a paranormal encounter, but in our daily lives we can easily come into contact with rapists, abusers, psychopaths. They’ll all be wearing human faces, and none of them are easy to spot.

The real monsters either don’t understand, or don’t care that anyone else feels anything, or they know, and they enjoy causing pain. They are amongst us. Sometimes they sleep in our beds, not under them.

Real monster stories are cathartic. Sometimes seeing the monster taken down can be affirming, reassuring us that there is justice after all. But even if good doesn’t triumph, even if the bad guys get away with it, there’s a release in reading the story. We recognise the monster. We know what they are. One of the worst things about real monsters is not what they do to your body, but what they do to your mind. Believe me, the mind stuff is worse. Bodies heal, or they die. Minds can continue in ways that make every day a living hell. The prison inside your head is the hardest one to escape from. Monster stories help us place the monster on the outside, and help take away the bars we may have on the inside. Sometimes they help us deal with our own monstrosity too, letting us imagine the things we might have done. I don’t think encountering horror necessarily corrupts anyone. I think if you have it in you to be honourable, what horror does is help you affirm your own boundaries and beliefs.

For stories about real monsters, I’d like to direct you to Cain Berlinger’s Dark Side. These are all stories that have come out individually, but if you buy the set it works out cheaper. These are dark, dark tales that you make you shiver, and cringe, and wonder about human nature. Some of them are shocking. It is good to be shocked. It’s a way of reminding yourself that you are indeed, human.

BOO!

What a big much ado about nuthin’! I prefer Europe’s Carnival, that starts on November 11, at 11pm and generally go to January or February. Too much? Yeah, maybe a bit, but one night? Hardly seems worth the estimated four billion dollars a year Americans spend on it, but it is enjoyed and celebrated by big kids and little kids alike, and who am I to begrudge the 99% a reason to get silly. Party on America!

Since my (soon to be) eight months bout with a staph infection, that knocked me on my ass I have become a lot more charitable toward friends and acquaintances and mankind in general. I have really learned the meaning of ‘family’. Simply put, like the song, they may not be there when you want them but they are always right on time! I am happy to say I have over the years, through no conscious effort of my own amassed not one,not two, but three or four ‘families’ that love the hell out of me. Unaware of much of this love till recently I haven’t in my mind returned it in kind. That’s going to change, now that I know just how quietly people chose to care.

I have tried to focus on three things that I love the best, writing, promoting my sex website and parties. The rest of the time I lie about thinking of new ways to add to all three and when that’s done I fall asleep from exhaustion, not physical but mental. I watch a lot of television as white noise behind me and occasionally glean an idea or two or three. I now walk temporarily with a cane, a handsome silver tipped cane given to me by my very supportive partner. “Cain on Cane.” Make all the jokes you want and get them out of your system. Ha ha. They say if you do the thing (s) you really love, you’ll get rich from it eventually. I’m waiting, patiently I might add. I am certainly doing the things I love best.

Good Night Estevan received its first criticism in my kitchen when a friend informed me that the Spanish name was misspelled. To late for corrections I merely attributed the awkward spelling to Estevan’s rebellious nature. Good Night Estevan is about two men who are passionate about their country but less demonstrative of their passion when it comes to the personal. This is a Rock Hudson/ Doris Day romance with a savage turn to match a savage environment. Estevan is never NOT sweating and Ramirez is never NOT lusting. Here is foreplay the way REAL men do it, I’d imagine.

Halloween could not have been a better time to release Cain Berlinger’s Darkside. It’s all about things that not only go bump in the night but bump inside the protagonist’s head. Almost every lead character in the many stories wrapped up in Darkside, all have ‘issues’ , issues of intensity, of obsession, involvement, and sexual deviancy in many of its assorted forms. It just proves as I’ve said before that not all monsters are ghoulish green goblins, sometimes they look like you and me. And the faces we wear are the masks of others. It’s always fun to play with the characters when you know that for the moment they are safely consigned to the pages of your book. For now.

Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!!
