A film by acclaimed director Almodover is a sub titled masterpiece named “The Skin I Live In”. It’s the best film I’ve enjoyed in a long while, starring Antonio Banderas, who knew? There was a time I used to fancy myself as a film buff until I matched wits with the contestants of “Who wants to be a millionaire” during movie buff week. Here are some things you already know. And that is life is full of humbling experiences that force you to grow up and face the fact that you aren’t as perfect as you may have thought you were back in your youth, and people aren’t always as you see them in black and white but shades of gray, providing writers with various templates that apply in depicting human beings in often challenging situations.

The seven deadly sins are always going to be applicable to everyone even though few of us are going to be guilty of ALL of the sins. It’s a safe bet you can latch onto any one of them to exploit in your main character, maybe two or more to the villain (if there is one) in the piece. The author can play god and decide whether his/her characters are going to be held accountable or not. It’s the most fun of being a writer.

With erotica, it’s with certainty your main characters are going to be bringing sex to the table along with desire and greed. Sex of course is an important part of erotica, which is what I like to think is what I do. I consider it porn when you take out the sex and there is no story left. Erotica is when you can remove the blatant sex and still have a viable storyline.

When I first started writing I was told that there are only twenty five workable scenarios. Therefore it has always been my goal to come up with some of the most unlikely scenarios and pairings that I can think of, and I believe I have been successful at doing that in many instances.

In writing TWINS I was simply playing to an old theme. I had never written a story involving twins and knew little about them. I had to do research on the types of twins I was going to do. Fraternal or identical. The old theme of the ‘evil twin’ is played with here without ever knowing in the end if there ever was an ‘evil’ twin, and in the end is there a ‘triumph’? Introducing Victor as an ‘innocent’ was just a challenge to the reader. However you saw Victor, would define who you saw as the ‘evil’ twin. I must admit the challenge for me was trying to tell Tracy and Trent apart, especially for the final scenes.

When I wrote LOVE BOAT I was attempting to parody the popular 70’s television show “The Love Boat”. The story is about two lovers who find each other, lose each other, then find each other again. The story hangs on a caricature of a devious film actor who wants to destroy the lovers happiness. When I wrote the story many years ago, it was meant as a light hearted romp, but life experiences since then obviously put me in a darker more cynical albeit realistic space. So when I brought it out of the archives for a much needed rewrite, I added the ‘bad guy’ and all the darkness that he brought with him. Of course in the end it all works out well, or does it? Wow oh wow for a guy who loves to write I’ve been sadly remiss in keeping my blog postings up. Thanks to you all of you who reminded me of my responsibility to my readers, but I have an excuse. My foot’s getting better! I’m using a cane now (yes, Cain on cane…get it out yer system.) and getting out of the house in time to enjoy Autumn in New York, arguably the best time of the year. Unfortunately no pain really can mean no gain, so the better I’m getting the more pain but hey, inspiration has to come from somewhere. When you are a writer, inspiration comes in all shapes from all places and let’s not forget that there’s nothing on television that can’t be redone to fit our own sense and sensibilities. Special thanks go out to the men and women of Fetlife.com. There are some wild ideas out there, a gold mine waiting to be tapped!

I hope that you had a chance to enjoy Return to Canyon Ranch, one of the two sequels that I have ever written. As a writer I feel I should challenge myself and not bore my readers, so when the spirit presents itself I try my hand at different genres. Canyon Ranch isn’t my first Western themed tale but definitely the most involved. As I love to say, the story began to write itself, and when the story itself makes me happy I’m convinced my readers will enjoy my enjoyment in presenting it to them. Patterned after the American TV classic “Bonanza”, the story follows the adventures of the stud brothers Ross, as they battle cattle rustler Whip Dagger, in his plot to avenge what ends up being merely a broken heart.

This week we plunge in to the behind the scenes world of The Rock Star and the hard luck life they lead behind the scenes and the men hired to protect, and yes even to love them.

Many of my fans have come to recognize many of my tales as having a hard edge sometimes even dark side to them, but every now and then I bridge the gap between drama, romance and sheer fun, and The Rock Star is one of those stories. More about my Dark Side in my next blog installment as “Tales from the Darkside”, my first anthology in e-books and hard copy makes its release around October 21 just in time for Halloween. Not all monsters actually look like monsters but appear in the guise of hot sultry men who have all been noble agendas!

I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for the constant encouragement of my fans and well wishers! I have to tell you a big part of the healing process comes from friends and supporters encouraging me to get well…and soon! I can’t thank all of you enough for the healing vibes (and guestbook postings) coming my way. Believe me nothing humbles you more.

Why I Don’t “Do” Phone

There is a segment of the Internet community that cruise web sites of a social-sexual nature,  reads or skims profiles in search of love, friendship but mostly NSA (no strings attached) sex. Certainly those of us who do the sites all have horror stories of our own to tell. Segments of that group believe many others are just as attracted to chopped up profile pics than say, a face. Whose to say a hot torso , or a pic of someone’s chest or abs isn’t the key to ‘happily ever after’? Better yet, no pics at all creates an air of mystery. Seems half the Internet is in the witness protection program. Are you ready for your mystery date? My theory is if you run into someone over the age of 10 and they claim no pictures of them exist, run! But remember there are exceptions to every rule, ah’m jest sayin’!

So getting back on topic, you have probably figured that I shouldn’t even be on these sites if that’s the cynical way I feel. Truth is not all experiences have been the stuff of Wes Craven movies. That being said I do have a serious pet peeve and thats the guys who are to lazy to read/write a profile. They want to do phone. There are merits to the phone connection. Sometime a voice can tell you a lot about a ‘hook-up’. Some folks get turned on by a voice. Although a voice can be misleading. Some of us have so fine tuned our fantasy of ‘Mr.Right’ that a nasal voice, stutter, or over use of ebonics can make or break a connection.

Once you get past the voice there’s that question of what do you talk about? If your like me, all the pertinent statistics are in my profile, and if there is one thing I hate its redundancy. Read the profile. Don’t give me your phone number because on a first time ‘maybe‘ because I won’t call you. I don’t write it down, I don’t save the e-mail, and my phone contacts is already full of asterisks (#’s from before I instigated the no call policy).

Usually after the initial “what’s up”? theres the usual (already in profile) questions, and if that doesn’t bore you they’ll try to ease you into sex chat, which if your into that, its cool but this is about me and I’m not into phone sex, why else would I be here!

Other reasons I don’t do phone is that I’m a major multi -tasker. Asking me to do phone means your asking me to devote all my attention to you. I will be watching television, if this is a first call chances are you won’t be as interesting as anything I’m watching be it ‘local news’ or another ‘Criminal Minds’ marathon. I will likely be ‘chatting’ with someone else on line usually a friend with whom we share a mutual interest. Aside from surfing I’ll be paying bills maybe, or working on a story. The point is I’m always in the middle of something else and until proven we have a chance (which would be indicated in a complete profile) theres no reason to waste valued time with you at this point. Even in casual hook ups I have to know theres something more on the table than a sexual connection. I’m not particularly a people person, isn’t this reason enough?  Ah’m jes say’in….LOL

This weeks offering is TY’S SOLUTION a romance story that uses BDSM and forced restraint as romantic tools between star crossed lovers .  I call it one of my softer offerings. Sometime we express our needs through the tools and whatever choices are available to us at the time.  TY’S SOLUTION is a universal theme of two people facing society’s judgements of dating within our own race, conflicting social status and the way they can keep normally rational people apart. Heat waves, Earthquakes and Hurricanes, right outside my New York door. I’m not sure being confined inside is such a bad thing after all. I must admit, laid out here in bed with my i-Thingies and my ideas, I’m a happy camper. Only the pain as the foot heals, jolts me every now and then back to reality, as if hours of BBC News isn’t jolting enough.

The good news is I’m now walking with a cane and doctor’s computer print out confirms that the infection in my foot was just an old fashioned, nasty infection and NOT, repeat NOT MRSA! I’m not sure why, but I feel a lot better, although I still feel as if I’ve dodged a serious bullet.

My latest literary offerings BREAKAWAY and PHARAOH’S SONS is from my “light stuff’ offering. I have a few more tales in the archives that I touch up a bit, to maybe add a bit of modern day edge. BREAKAWAY is a tale about love finding a guy whose kinda given up and decided being a player is what it’s all about, until he meets every gay man’s nightmare. The ‘trick‘ that won’t go away.

In PHAROAH’S SONS I go sweet, as two young princes find love among the sand dunes. Yeah I got a sweet side. I’m not, nor was I always this cynical. The thing about these two stories is there is no backstory, no exercising of demons or axes to grind.  It’s my occasional homage to simple sex and romance. I admit under this gruff exterior lies a true romantic.

If you’re wondering what happened to my mystery novel effort, it’s on the back burner. Actually two of them:  it’s a slow process. In the meantime I still explore other literary avenues I have yet to explore. I’m hoping that every one who visits this website and reads this blog will add their comments, suggestions and just greetings to my guestbook. Well I hope everyone has been having a good Summer despite the crazy weather we’ve been having all over the place. There is an advantage to being stuck indoors because of a faulty foot, and that would be the A/C. Not just keepin me cool but the foot isn’t allowed to sweat, it seems to much moisture is at the fault of the whole foot infection thing.

What have I done to keep my mind off the pain and the whole bloody business? I’ve done what any writer would do, I write. After having completed the final touches on CANYON RANCH, MORPHINE, and BEDTIME STORIES (galleys, covers etc) I went treasure hunting on all my flash drives for things I could use on the site and some possibly missing stories that I may have abandoned for one reason or another.

One such story I found was a mystery novella I wrote over ten years ago. I remember the story going through many title changes until I settled on BUCKY because at the time the lead character’s name was Bucky. It isn’t any more.

Bucky as it turned out needed a lot of rewrites just on the opening chapter alone, where not only did I have to familiarize myself with the characters again but try and remember who done what to whom. In many of my short stories, I often plan on one thing and the story will write itself, often taking me into a whole nother direction. This is not always true, especially in the case of Bucky. I also didn’t have much in the way of sexual content and now that I’m a bona fide sensualist I felt I should throw in a few scenes to highlight the action.

Lo and Behold I also discovered that out of 20 (I guess) chapters 2-9 and 19-20 are missing. Well, I could chuck the whole thing or try and piece it together. No doubt it would have proved much better in rewrites so I decided what the hell. I don’t want to say I quit a project just because it challenging

I have two other stories in my head that I want to do but I’ve made a deal with myself that I’m going to finish what I’ve started! I also have a story about rain that I submitted to someone years ago in a contest and can’t find the copy or whom I even sent it to. Maybe one of out there may have seen it…..it was a contest entry that I think I lost.

So I’m spending some time piecing Bucky together and hope to be pleased with the result anytime in the next few weeks.

I started writing when I was kid in grade school, then graduated to comic books (no, I didn’t do comic co as much as I wanted to, I love San Diego!) but gave it up when every Art High School turned me down. Even to this day I’m not sure whether it was my grades or that just didn’t have the talent. Well, I’ve found something I can do now and I’m going to stick with it. And in no time this foot will be back to health and I’ll be up and line dancing to Jace Everetts “Bad Things”.
